A third grade teacher explains to her class that she is a conservative Republican. She asks her students to raise their hands if they were conservative Republicans too. Not really knowing what a conservative Republican was, but wanting to be like their teacher, their hands explode into the air like fleshy fireworks. There was, however, one exception. A girl named Lucy has not gone along with the crowd. The teacher asks her why she has decided to be different.

Because I'm not a conservative Republican. Then, asks the teacher, what are you? Why I'm a proud liberal Democrat, boasts the little girl.

The teacher a little perturbed, her face slightly red, asked Lucy why she is a liberal Democrat. Well, I was brought up to trust in myself and in my government to help people who need assistance in life and to contribute to the well being of all, not just those with money and power. My Dad and Mom are liberal Democrats and I am a liberal democrat also.

The teacher now angry, loudly said, That's no reason. What if your Mom was a moron, ad your dad was a moron. What would you be then?

A pause, and a smile. Then, says Lucy, I'd be a conservative Republican.
