11/30/98 i'm backtracking here, here's my review from palm desert closing.

moving on to World Aids Day '98.

11/29/98 it's closing day in palm desert.  i can't believe i only made it to the show once all week.  but you guys who aren't here have no idea what a pain it is to get to that place - LOL (the end of the earth as amber says :-)  anyway, i'm going today to say goodbye (again!)

i was trying to clean up my mail yesterday and came across these pictures adam sent me waaaaay back in april (jeez) - so here they are - from tampa!

i kinda doubt i'll be updating tomorrow - i'll be home from the show really late tonite and i have to go to work in the morning.

world aids day is tuesday:

  • there's been a 10% increase in HIV infections worldwide since 1997
  • 11 people around the world become infected with HIV every minute
  • an estimated 2.5 million deaths worldwide in 1998 were due to AIDS, the highest number ever recorded in a single year

so i was supposed to go to the show today/tonite but shit happens. going tomorrow tho :-)
11/27/98 i was so stuffed last nite - ack!  we had thanksgiving dinner at my mother-in-law's house - which we found out when we arrived (she just moved) is directly across the street from where they shoot buffy!  she said they're there all the time :-)

and yes moe is leaving - in january.

11/25/98 i'm just gonna be really lazy here and post the same review from last nite that i posted on the board.  the show was great fun.  and hey, i forgot something - they're selling these heavy silver (like the dog tags) big round "No Day But Today" christmas ornaments that hang from a red ribbon.  just what we all need, more rent paraphernalia - lol :-)

and btw, boston is not confirmed yet as i was previously told (oy!).

11/23/98 {loud guitars, drums & sax} ::: today is my birthday ::: whee!   lol.

last year on my birthday we went and tried the brand spanking new lottery system at the ahmanson - and lost.  i think that was the 1st time i went back after wilson's last.  anyh00, thanks everyone for all the birthday wishes and cards and mail and calls and pages and stuff :-)

Shepard Murder Hearing Under Way:

"As he lay there bleeding and begging for his life, he was then bound to the buck fence,'' prosecutor Cal Rerucha told a packed courtroom as a preliminary hearing for Aaron James McKinney got under way.

The slightly built Shepard, who had been pummeled with the butt of a .357-caliber Magnum, suffered 18 blows to the head, and his hands were bound so tightly that a sheriff's deputy had difficulty cutting him free, Rerucha said.

Shepard's blood-caked face had been partially washed clean by tears.


somebody asked me the other day why i still have that candle burning for matthew.   can you read that and not be outraged and hurt all over again?   that's why.  congress reconvenes in january - this fight's not over.

somebody asked when alan leaves and i have it stuck in my head that he leaves the 9th, but that cant' be right, that's the middle of the week...

so, this time next week we'll be in palm desert.  is it cold in palm desert?  (lol, yes, i'm worrying about it already :-)  no comments from the peanut gallery!

and "art" opens in l.a. in january with the obc - we need to go see that.
11/18/98 yes, she's leaving.  leigh plans to stay with the tour through san antonio, then go home for the holidays.  it's time, she's been in this cast since the beginning, she's our original maureen.

so let's think about this (yes, it's just more of my shower thoughts).  carla leaves new york on the 6th.  leigh leaves the bennytour on the 13th.  hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.   ;-)

11/16/98 the ovation awards are tonite at the shubert.

staci tells me the greensboro show on the 15th has been cancelled, opening night is now december 16th.  24 rush tickets.

the TLS cd is going to scotland - hazy wants a copy - yay!  :-)

11/15/98 okaaaaaayyy... i had a friday the 13th computer crash and had to take the whole damn thing apart, but all's well now.  and i just want to say, for those of you who weren't here last year, that screwdriver i got for christmas is still my favorite, i love that thing, it's just way cool :-)

i got a bunch of postcards from ronda for the l.a. run of TLS, here's a copy (it's big, be patient).

and finally, something new on the internet - tucson (see november '98).

this here is a *very* cool thing starbucks is doing.  now if we could just get TLS as the cd that's included in the package....   ;-)

  "True Life: Matthew's Murder" takes the viewer into the heart of young America's shock and confusion about the death of the 21 year old college student .   In Wyoming, Matthew's friends reflect on the gentle, irresistible friend they loved and lost.  In New York City, many gay rights activists lash out against the country's homophobia.  And in South Carolina, some young people -- gay and straight -- struggle to reconcile the horror of Shepard's brutal murder with their suspicion that flagrantly gay people are "asking for it."
 
  In this half hour MTV News Special, host Serena Altschul talks to young people around the country asking -- what is the climate of thought in America that allowed a murder like Shepard's?  Pop stars like musician Michael Stipe and actress/comedian Ellen Degeneres are heralded by the  mass media -- but the people in "True Life: Matthew's Murder" tell a  much more complicated story.  "True Life: Matthew's Murder" reveals  the persistent stereotypes of gay people as sexual predators, people who  are overly effeminate or too butch, or people who's libidos are out of control.   In a frequently hostile, straight world, are we all really free to be who we are?
  
  "True Life: Matthew's Murder" will provide resources and information   to MTV viewers through the promotion of a special hotline and website.    The 800 number for the Trevor Line: Crisis Intervention for Lesbian Gay   Bisexual and Transgender Youth will be promoted throughout the show as  will the Youth Resource website (www.youthresource.com) which will have  peer educators available online directly after the show's premiere to help young people find support and information both online and in their local communities.
 
  In October at a White House Summit on School Violence, MTV announced that it was partnering with the Departments of Justice and Education on the creation of an anti-violence initiative, "Fight For Your Rights: Take a Stand Against Violence."  This groundbreaking campaign will involve special programming, Public Service Announcements, grass roots events, and MTV News special reports all designed to give MTV's audience a voice in the national debate on violence and to provide them with tangible tactics to take a stand against violence.
