"Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS (BC/EFA) presents the Best of Broadway auction in support of the theater community's Gypsy of the Year competition. The Gypsy of the Year competition is the culmination of six weeks of fundraising for BC/EFA during the fall, when Broadway and off-Broadway shows engage in friendly competition to see which show can raise the most money. Curtain speeches, sales of autographed posters and programs, auctions, and cabaret performances are just some of the activities that enable these theater companies to bring in generous contributions from audiences. Each year, awards are presented to the show that raises the most money for BC/EFA, as well as to the gypsies who have created and presented the event's most entertaining performances. This year, to supplement the productions' efforts, BC/EFA is hosting the Best of Broadway auction at Amazon.com, featuring one-of-a-kind items sold online from Broadway, off-Broadway, and national touring companies, including the best of shows currently playing and some of the best that have ever played the nation's stages. All the monies raised will be credited to each show's gypsy totals. View all of the Best of Broadway auction items." "Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS is the nation's leading, industry-based, non-profit AIDS fundraising and grant-making organization. BC/EFA is the ongoing, committed response from the American Theatre community to an urgent worldwide crisis. By drawing upon the talents, resources and generosity of this community, BC/EFA raises funds for AIDS-related cases across the United States. Since its founding in 1998, BC/EFA has distributed over $50 million for critically needed services for people with AIDS, HIV, or HIV related illnesses. Broadway Cares also supports the Women's Health Initiative of the Actors' Fund of America as well as a new program called Volunteer Physicians for the Arts." good luck, if any of you are going to go after this! :-) |
