what i want to know is, do they really think there'll be anything left in this room once they start renting it out? ;-) SAN FRANCISCO -There's no day like today to experience the newest addition to the Hotel Triton's popular designer suite collection: Room for Rent. Like Rent, the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winning Broadway musical, this unique suite celebrates the heart and spirit of a generation. Available to the public on Friday, March 5, 1999, the Room for Rent opening coincides with Rent's San Francisco premiere. Performances of Rent begin on March 3, 1999 at the Golden Gate Theatre. Room for Rent reflects Rent's youthful energy and eclectic mix of styles and tastes. Inspired by Puccini's La Boheme, Rent is a joyous, breathtaking and often bittersweet musical that celebrates a community of artists as they struggle with the soaring hopes and tough realities of today's world. Designed by Matthew Maraffi, Rent Assistant Set Designer, the Room for Rent comes complete with heat, electricity and all the comforts of home (keys provided at the front desk - we won't ask guests to wait on the street while the key is tossed out the window). Maraffi integrates several of the loft's signature elements and themes including, a China lantern, stainless steel coffee table, and beaded lamp shades. Leopard-print carpet throughout (a nod to Mimi's boots), and a geometric print bedspread fashioned from fabric used for Roger's shirt. The exterior of the door features the same criss-cross chain and pad lock that Benny affixes to Mark and Roger's door when he attempts to evict them from their apartment. The suite also contains a mural by artist Billy who created the artwork displayed at the Nederlander Theatre in New York, in addition to artifacts, photos and other images from the production. In the bedroom, the bedside tables, armoire and desk are distressed and painted. The walls are glazed Rent blue over white. The custom-tailored bedspread and headboard are made from the black and white geometric print shirt fabric used for the character Roger. A side arm chair and the sofa are upholstered in what would best be described as "tacky chic" velour stripe. The private bar contains a variety of products form the production for the purchase including, CD's, temporary tattoos, stationary, and T-shirts. The bathroom walls are painted to look like brushed aluminum. The pocket shower curtain contains props and accessories based on Angel's costume. A skirt that hangs from the bathroom sink is made from Mimi's trademark turquoise plastic pant fabric. Framed art from the production hangs on the walls. The closet, located just outside the bathroom, contains three costumes from the show: Angel's Santa suit, Roger's shirt and a tie-dyed T-shirt. Furnishings for the Room for Rent are on loan from the production company's private collection or handcrafted exclusively for the Hotel Triton. Original cast recording available on Dreamworks Records, CD's and cassettes. The Hotel Triton is located at 342 Grant Avenue, San Francisco, Calif., 94108. Guests of the Hotel Triton can experience the Room for Rent for $299, single or double occupancy, based on availability. Call (800) 433-6611 or (415) 394-0500 for reservations. |
