for matthew

12/31/98 new year's rockin' eve.  it's been a helluva year hasn't it?  be safe y'all :-)

don't forget that ny rent cast thing on cbs this morning (channel 2 here in california).  starts at 7am and lasts for 2 hours.

12/30/98 i'm not really here, it's an illusion (busy).  so busy i didn't realize roxanne left. ack.

12/29/98

 this day just sucked

12/28/98 went to both TLS shows yesterday.   the mat was the best show i've ever seen, it was fantastic. the place was packed both shows too, and there was a big ole' line.  if you're coming to l.a., ya gotta go see this show.

but god i hate this fucking disease.

12/27/98 name this tune: "in the chilly hours and minutes of uncertainty, i want to be in the warm hold of your lovin' mind".  bonus points for the name of the cd (i'm tryin' to stump charmi but don't think this one's gonna do it :-)
12/26/98 lookit my christmas present from angel in london - a little worse for wear from the airmail flight but still!  :-)   and it's aptly titled bbb (boy before bleach) awwwwww!  :-)

thanks for all the cards and stuff everyone!  i suck, i didn't send any, so consider yesterday's message my card to all of you :-)

12/25/98 to all of my tribe, love and peace.  may the holidays truly be a "season of love" for you all.

12/24/98 december 24th... you know the rest, carry on :-)

a message from china (i really like this):

"On the occasion of christmas day let us pray in concert, whichever your country, whichever your tribe, for all the people lived in the blue golden earth: wipe up wars, poverty and hungers and establish peaceful equality, free and happiest world owned by humankind.

Please accept the best benediction from China, a country with an ancient civilization, for all of you May your Christmas and New Years Day be especially happy!"

12/23/98 coming and going and somewhere inbetween. "mister if you're gonna walk on water, would you drop a line my way?"  name that tune. for bonus points, name that cd :-)  i had "1999" stuck in my head for months, now this.  yeaaah, i'm just a little loopy, work's been kickin' my butt...

12/22/98 if norbert's not coming give me adrian!

TLS has been extended till february 14th - get down to the tiffany and see this show!  bob and amy will be on 90.7FM  on Wednesday from 10:00 pm to 10:30.  tune in and call in!

12/21/98 i updated the bios, and according to the official site, carl thornton is the new benny.

check out lifecafe :-)

12/20/98 the past <72 hours> is history folks, forget it.  i missed it before so i'll say it now - happy hanukkah and happy holidays.

the other stuff that went on yesterday - they impeached the president and livingston resigned - i'm at a loss for words.  as censure and move on put it:  "They've done it. They've ignored the pleas of the American people. They've subverted and misused the Constitution. They've damaged and degraded our institutions and our democracy. They've thrown away two centuries of government stability and separation of powers. They've impeached the President."  ugh.

the times "man of the year" announced this morning is/are ken starr and bill clinton.

here's two articles from memphis (check december '98) (thanks karen c :-)  the folks at this theater are really nice btw, they wrote me and said they know how hard it will be for the cast to be away from home for the holidays, and they plan to do something for them.  cool.

i haven't heard any more about adrian than the rest of you have, i don't know what the hell's going on over there.

12/19/98 alright, i guess i need to unload so i'm not leaving you all in the dark.  two days ago a 'friend' sent me a message telling me how upset she was because i hadn't posted "happy hanukkah" on my site, and in general telling me religious sensitivity and tolerance is no less important than tolerance and sensitivity to the sexual orientation of others.  and it pissed me off becuz 1) duh; and 2) i have an actual time-consuming life that this person knows nothing about; and 3) i'm really, REALLY busy at work and am barely treadin' water here; and 4) it's MY site - i post what i can and what i have time for.  if i miss something, give me a fucking break.

segue to yesterday's message on the board:

"I think that Gail needs to remember that she has a responsibility to this site....... she agreed to these responsibilities when she decided to take on the site..... Everybody has their bad days. She needs to get over it and keep giving us the news ON RENT, which is what the site is all about."

puleeeeeze.  this is a PERSONAL site. i have NO "responsibility" to it and i didn't "agree" to anything.  shades of LifeCafe anyone?  having to put up with stuff like this, do you wonder why jim finally said the hell with it and shut it down?  oy.

and i may NOT be updating every day right now, i'm busy.

thanks to all of you who emailed, posted and called, (and to jimbo for calling me at work and singing to me, lol) i'm fine, really, my feathers are just ruffled, so to speak (quack :-)

so, with that said, here's the first (and only so far) review from greensboro.

and brent says to tell you all "happy holidays & may the new year bring the best to all!"

12/17/98 i'm seriously pissed, and i'm taking a break.

12/16/98 maaan, i'm leading a project at work to completely rebuild/revamp the company intranet and it has to launch on december 31st.  i hate being this busy at christmastime.

here's some more of dyann's pictures from albuquerque (this whole page is like the dyann show - lol :-)

12/15/98 i think time disqualifed us or something, it looks like they threw out all the votes from duplicate ip's.  oh well steve, tried to diefy you and villified you instead  ;-)   vote for matt, they only threw out 3/4 of those votes!

"happiness is just a pair of flannel pajamas to you, isn't it?" - ally mcbeal.

12/14/98 here's some more of dyann's pictures from albuquerque.

i'm putting you to work.   we've all been voting for steve for time magazines "man of the year".   here's the link - make sure you spell it right and use capital first letters - Steve Schalchlin - and you can vote over and over and over :-)

12/13/98 goodbye leigh!   you've been great, see you in l.a. honey :-)

and to broadway: goodbye wilson.

went to TLS last nite, bob had laryngitis but it somehow made gideon more real, it was good.  00h, and then ran into ryan idol standing outside in his robe between shows - heh heh - breathe dickie :-)

here's the first of dyann's pictures from albuquerque, and neil the way he should be - blonde :-)

12/12/98 two articles from greensboro already - check the december link. dyann sent me a *bunch* of pictures from albuquerque - some will be up tomorrow - thanks dyann :-)

off to see TLS this afternoon.  one of these days i'm gonna go christmas shopping.

glad to hear you're okay bry!

12/11/98 más pictures from palm desert, and a good one of anika and amber in seattle :-)

i had to laugh yesterday when someone posted (again) on the ny board that there's never any flame wars on the benny board - wilson's last immediately came to mind.  god, do any of you remember that?  the mother of all wars, lol.

i haven't done any christmas shopping yet - ack!

12/10/98 ok, here's a few more of my pictures from palm desert.

another article from san antonio, and the first  review.

look, scott hunt is "bright & sassy" - LOL!   (love ya scott :-)

12/9/98 um, i got home late and talked on the phone all nite - there's sessionauts in from out of town.   great review in the hollywood reporter btw!

i did catch buffy tho - willow was a great vamp - LOL!

12/8/98 the other nite at TLS, stacey handed me a stack of pictures from her various recent travels (stacey, you need to go take that purity test - LOL :-)  here's baltimore, seattle, vancouver, and TLS Laguna (i need your palm desert and albuquerque! :-)

and TLS is the times 'pick of the day'!  w00!   :-)

here's the first article out of san antonio (actually it's not, they wrote one way back in may!)

we love you carla, so glad we got to say goodbye again :-)

12/7/98 i spent the day at TLS - good show, sound problems made for a fidgety steve :-)  i went with michael and met o'linda and dixon from the list - great people!  v.j. from talkin broadway posted this on the board and put jim's article up again :-)

In my many years of being an observer of musical theater,
"The Last Session" is simply something special and something
brilliant. It has also been a special pleasure to get to
know the creative team, those dymanic men of rhyme, Jim
and Steve. After last nights webcast, I called them
today to ask permission to reprint an article from the
Laguna program that Jim wrote called "Coming Home."

norbert and carla's last day yesterday (come back to me carla! lol :-)

12/6/98 i updated the tourdates - added cleveland and atlanta.

the TLS webcast had a few problems last night but it was still fun. we had a party in the chat room :-)  i'm going to the mat today, can't wait.

that new christmas movie neil is in is on tonite on cbs - 9pm pst.

12/5/98 okay, more of my pictures from palm desert, and some more of amber's from seattle.

the TLS live webcast is tonite!  if you can't be here in l.a. for the opening, park yourself in front of your computer tonite :-)

12/4/98 the TLS preview last night was s0000 good, the theater is really, really small and the sound in the place is terrific.   and because it's so small everyone's facial expressions are so important and man, everyone was just so *on*.  i've never heard any of them be better than they were last nite, fantastic.  there's some new lines in the show that worked perfectly.   dickie and i were sitting with jimmy who kept laughing loudly at his own stuff (yeah, he's his own biggest fan)  it was great :-)
12/3/98 here's a really nice article on al & nan larson from albuquerque.

and the first review.

tonite's the first preview of TLS - i'll be there!

oh and andy asked me to tell everyone hi and that laura is *fierce* and they're having a great time together - and that it's FREEZING. lol, a boy after my own heart :-)

and i'm seeing boston is scheduled, and now atlanta august 11-15 - back at the fox theater adam!

12/2/98 hope you were all able to do something for World Aids Day yesterday.

here's the first of my pictures from palm desert.

michael j. fox said a cool thing the other day about his illness (well, i liked it anyway):

"It's not that I had a deep, dark secret," says Fox of his private struggle with the disease, which required him to have brain surgery last March. "It was just my thing to deal with. But this box I had put everything into kind of expanded to a point where it's difficult to lug around. What's inside the box isn't inhibiting me. It's the box itself".
