We caught up with Christian Mena in Atlantic City where he was performing as Roger in the national tour of the Broadway hit "Rent." After his standing ovation performance, we strolled along the boardwalk with his wife, Sandra, and Yassmin Alers who plays Mimi in the show. Settling into a booth amongst the movie memorabilia at Planet Hollywood, we began to discuss life on the road in a major musical production. Latina: How does the role of Roger affect you? Mena: The role has had a positive effect on my life. It's a blessing and a curse. It's great because I get to see all of these places and meet new people but it's a curse because it leaves you little time for anything else. I've grown so much as a performer doing this role but I've also been with the tour for two years. It can be exhausting. My contract is up in November. We'll have to see. L: You're with these people all of the time. Do you ever get sick of each other? M: We're like one big family. It's cool most of the time but we have our moments. They [the cast] become your support system. L: It must be great to have your wife with you on the road. Is it weird not having a "home?" M: She's my strength. She fulfills me-emotionally and spiritually. Home is anywhere she is. Although Mena has
chosen not to renew his contract for the following season, you can still catch a great
