The Virtual $20 'Rent' Line

The Ordway
December 13, 1999

If you're like many Rent fans out there, you (or someone you know) have stood in line to buy a $20 ticket for a front row seat. This year, no one will be standing in line, but virtually, everyone will get in line - online. 28 seats in the front two rows of the orchestra will be available for $20 for every performance of Rent, the Pulitzer Prize and TonyŽ Award-winning musical, at the Ordway Music Theatre which runs December 21, 1999 through January 1, 2000. This year tickets will be available in an all new online lottery called "The Virtual $20 Rent Line."

The exact rules are as follows:

  • The online ticket lottery begins at 9:00 p.m. for the next day's tickets and closes at 11:00 a.m. the day of the performance

  • The cost is $20 per ticket (maximum of two) plus a $2 facility fee; seats are located in the first two rows Orchestra Center

  • Enter online at the Ordway's Web site at www.ordway.org or at startribune.com/rentline

  • Patrons without an e-mail address may open an account at stribmail on startribune.com

  • One online entry per person per performance - duplicate entries will be eliminated

  • Re-submit online each day to enter the ticket lottery

  • Tickets will be selected by a random selection computer program

  • Respondents who are not selected will be notified by e-mail; Ticket recipients will be notified by telephone and/or e-mail by 11:30 a.m.

  • A credit card is required to guarantee the tickets, payment is to be made in cash when tickets are picked up at the Ordway Box Office one hour prior to curtain with a valid picture I.D. of the online participant

To register online for tickets, the following information will be needed:

  • Name

  • E-mail address

  • Phone number where registrant can be reached between 11:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. on the day of the ticket request

  • A major credit card to guarantee the ticket(s) (if request is selected)

  • The number of tickets requested (maximum of two)

  • The performance preferred (matinee or evening on two-performance days)

The Ordway recognizes that not everyone has access to a computer, so, the Ordway will open its doors at 9:00 a.m. each day for patrons to register at a computer kiosk located in the lobby.

Rent returns for the third time to the Ordway Music Theatre December 21, 1999 through January 1, 2000. For general ticket information, call (651) 224-4222.
