Rent Actors Threatened In Dublin

Dublin
July 27, 2000

Black actors starring in the hit Broadway musical "Rent" in Dublin have been forced to leave their accommodations following sick racist threats. The group of actors, who had flown in from England to join the International stage production, were only in the city a matter of hours before they were threatened. A source says, "About three or four of them were only just in their apartments near St Patrick's Cathedral when the locals started to complain. By that evening they had received several threats. They were told they would be burned out if they didn't move immediately". Posters for Rent which were stuck up on walls around the area were also defaced. The words "niggers out" were written on many of them.
