| August 30, 2000 | CATS, the longest-running show in Broadway history, will play its final performance on Sunday, September 10. But before they can close their doors for good - they are having a garage sale! Everything from props to costumes to signage and other assorted backstage memorabilia is up for grabs on Saturday, September 16, 10:00AM to 6:00PM, at the Winter Garden Theatre (Broadway at 50th Street). Wondering what to be this Halloween? How about Grizabella? Or Macavity? Or Mr. Mistoffelees? Buy one of these, and many more, authentic costumes... Need some housewares or sporting goods? All the feline treasures from the junkyard must go, too! Teapots, sardine cans, coffee cans, radios, boots, tennis racquets... An auction will commence at 4PM. Items available to the highest bidder include: the tire in which Grizabella and Deuteronomy ascend to the Heaviside Layer, their costumes, Shimbleshanks 'The Railway Cat' train pieces, even the very shoe which falls onto the stage in the first act. And what New York apartment would be complete without a very huge sign with those famous yellow eyes? Or your own "last weeks" sign. Original and final company members will be on hand to autograph your new treasures. For those who cannot attend, but still wish to own a piece of Broadway history, selected items are available online at www.amazon.com beginning September 12. Admission is $10 per person. All proceeds go directly to Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. BC/EFA is the entertainment industry's most active and vital organization addressing the challenges of AIDS. Since October, 1987, BC/EFA has raised and distributed $50 million in the fight against AIDS by mobilizing the expertise of the entertainment community. For more information,
