If you were among those wondering why there were so many empty seats at
the opening night of "Rent," it's because the producers refused to follow the
opening night tradition of "papering the house." The way I heard it, "the
stingy "Rent' producers" tight comp policy isn't well thought out. "It's
better to give a few tickets to people who will go and boost your show," said one
observer. On the positive side, the "Rent" tradition of offering seats in the
two front rows of the orchestra for $20 at each performance continues. The $20 tickets go
on sale at the Buell Theatre box office on the day of the performance only. They're
available two hours prior to the show, cash only, with a limit of two per person. |
