Short
review-my night that hasn't ended yet!...
Darcy S.
GUYS SUNDAY WAS INSANE! I spent the whole day doing RENT things.. Got to the theater way early. The only one's there were Chelle and like EVERY RENThead from the scene here showed up for lotto.. Lesley's dad was called and I got her other lotto ticket... Sadness had not yet set in. The energy on stage was eletric. Right now nothing about that show sticks out in my mind except, Erin not knowing where her drumstick was and her yelling on stage "I..I..Where's my thing?!? I can't find my drumstick" Lindy grabbed it for her and Erin yelled "Thank you" Then everyone burst out in laughter.
Stage door was horrendous. Said quick goodbyes to Trey and Dean and got on Erin because we were going to be "twins" yesterday. So she told me she was going home to change..
I then walked with Mary to the ATM as we were walking back we heard our names being yelled from some car and it was Erin and Trey yelling at us and saying "Hi Miss Mary" "bye Darcy" "see you guys later"
Lotto was insane..they must have crammed a good 250 people into the first lobby.they had to move the robes up the stairs to fit everyone in.
I had an insane number of people come say hello to me...when I had no clue who they were. One of which was this gorgeous boy Nick. It was this big RENT family reunion....
Lotto-guy came out and said "lets here it for rent"..and the crowd was applauding and yelling for a good 2-3 mins. Lotto started and ZealforLeal got lotto but he only got one ticket and Little Bear took the other.
At some point a bunch of us started to repeat the lotto shpeel and you hear everyone screaming "Unsuspecting rich people" Lotto took forever but alot of people that deserved to win won. I was happy with my row B seat. I was seated a row infront of nick, behind Susie, and right next to the infamous Gail who runs the Benny Tour site.
We worried that we wouldn't get back to the theater in time..but we did..(btw- it was a sold out show)
Okay the show.
One of the band people were warming up their gitars and the whole theater went nuts. The same with Boko and Dean..The whole cast came out on stage and there was a standing ovation that lasted another good three mins. some where already crying, Cheri sticks out in my mind. Trey turned back around and everyone was still applauding. I don't think he knew what to think.
tune up- Fabulous. Some of the audince was clapping after each bit. It got rather obnoxious but I felt bad after a while of not taking part every single applause.
RENT- My favorite song. I kinda drifted through all of that. I was dream-like.
TFU- Shaun came out and everyone cheered for a good amount of time and he just stood there. Once it died down he paused a moment and the song started. Again wooing throughout.
OT- OMG Sharon was eating this up. I must say yesterday I actually found her convincing. She wasn't as "cute" as she usually is.
OD- One or two words: goosebumps. I started to cry
SF- I never watch anyone during this song exccept Cheri. I love to watch her dance. Dance comes from the depths of her soul and my eyes were glued on her.
OTM- during the end of x-mas bells when Erin came out everyone was screaming(isn't that redundant?) At the end there was massive applause and although Erin was ready and the spot was on Trey he just stood there smiling and finally kinda cupped his mouth and yelled "Maureen's Performance". Then even more applause. OTM was great... Erin did "I gotta get out of here" differently and the crowd roared. OTM was also filled with a few "thank yous" from erin. At one point some point this annoying guy who's cell had went off earlier yelled "go girl" and she made this "right on" gesture. Mass applause in the middle of the number and Erin breaks her "elsie" pose and says "wait there IS more" There was alot of mooing.
LVB- Screaming at Trey during randdom parts of the begining. A ton of kids doing the sholder shrug/ arm movements...Electric stuff. The cast was on fire. During the company parts of the song I swore I heard people singing along and every one was doing the claps to it.
Intermission came and Michale Greif was there as he had been at the show prior. Al Larson was there too.. Nick had gone up to Grief for an autograph and he asked "Do you want to meet Al Larson?" who could say no to that?
I came unglued during the second act. Completely unguled...We were passing kleenex up and down the row. The cast pretty much stayed together during SOL. ICY reprise is when ALOT of people lost it including myself. My eyes were so watery I couldn't see.
The rest of the show was fabulous. Finale was fantastic.During bows cameras when off everywhere ushers were going nuts. Everyone was crying. For the second round of bows the rest of the company came out.
There were atleast 250 people at the cast door. SFPD was there. It was really hard to say goodbye. I didn't get to say goodbye how I wanted but Trey worked his way over to Mary and I and he huged us both and told us to give him kisses. I worked myself over to Erin and she was wearing our shirt and we took pictures... I said a breif goodbye. It's hard to say what you want to when there are so many people. I worked my way out of the crowed because it was a mess! Trey was still signing autographs and I got one good last picture with him and said goodbyes again. I worked my way back into the crowd because I NEEDED to talk to cheri. That didn't happen their bus was leaving for AsiaSF . So I quickly got her e-mail address. Gave Dean quick hug and the crowd was still insane so I gave up.we waited for the cast bus to leave and all of us waved....and were making funny faces at them and they were doing the same back. I just wish it could have been a little more personal. Like it usualy is(when there's maybe ten of us if that out back). They dove off into the city and out of our lives forever. With Ma and Pa Larson(as we thought) in tow and Carrie Hamilton.
The plan was to go with Susie to Lori's for dinner...met up with Nick they kept walking. We tried to catch up. So we went to Lori's and they were closed. After the Lori's being closed thing,I called Susie's and she wasn't home.
Then we were walking down the street to civic center. Then walked back. Found out I missed my train. So I went back to Nick's hotel room in South San Francisco (which incedentaly really isn't south san francisco).
So here I am with this beautiful boy in this room..We sat up talking untill like three...The last thing I remember was him saying "I can make my ear wistle" he ran around the room once and then passed out on the bed. Had I had the chance, I would have been all over him like bees over honey. He made me listen to the german cast and I never need to hear it again!
Woke up an hour later left. Waited at the BART station for an hour. Then waited for my cab home for an hour..Here I am with an hours sleep.
Okay deep thoughts:
-I never really fully understood the magic of RENT untill last night. I knew why but I didn't fully understand untill that "feeling" came over me.
- Although it wasn't technically the best show the Angels have ever done, it was powerful. There was a magic of some sort, a presence even.
-Okay I'm an athiest and as much as I hate to say it, and even though I never met the guy. Jonathan's presence was there.
